CP Library Friends change used book sale, continue Downton tea party plans
At its meeting on April Fools’ Day the Center Point Friends of the Library wisely decided to change its annual used book sale to work around the happy hassle of Library expansion construction which has already begun.
This spring the book sale will be on one day only and only during Library hours—10 to 2, Saturday, May 30. Access will be only through the Library front door.
Outhouse Archeology: BCHS to sponsor unique history lesson
Rod Moore, co-owner of Red Cedar Antiques in Vinton, will dig into the interesting subject of hunting for buried tidbits of history in the ground under outhouses. Each layer represents a time period. Much can be learned about the people who used the privy by the items that are found: their health (medicine bottles), whether they imbibed (liquor bottles), their financial status and more.
Tactical Firearms Academy offers renewal class for conceal carry permits
Tactical Firearms Academy, LLC of Vinton, IA is announcing a shooting range qualification process that meets Iowa Code for the renewal of concealed carry permits that does not require taking another class.
CCW permits that were acquired in 2011 will expire next year (2016). You must renew your permit at least 30 days prior to the expiration date on your permit.

GARRISON FIRST RESPONDERS ANNUAL DINNER/LIVE AUCTION
The Garrison First Responders will hold their annual dinner/live auction benefit Saturday, April 11th, at the Garrison Emergency Services Building. Doors will open at 4:30pm with serving of the meal to begin at 5:00pm./ The meal includes a choice of two entrees, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad bar, and dessert. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
All about Laura: Wilder researcher to speak at library April 9
The Vinton Public Library has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, to host a presentation “An Evening About Laura Ingalls Wilder” by Sarah Uthoff at 6:30, Thursday, April 9th at the library,. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.
